AJH was built in 1953. Today, the campus has 25 exterior doors, six separate buildings, classrooms that do not meet TEA standards, and limited handicapped accessibility.
The AJH replacement campus will meet TEA and ADA standards, and be embedded with security and technology infrastructure to keep students under one roof.
Storm shelters will be included at both junior high campuses.
Classroom additions will increase capacity, minimizing the need for future portables.
Over the past three years, the Azle ISD police department has grown from 2 – 13 licensed police officers. Upgrades to the central PD headquarters will be included with the new maintenance facility.
