Azle ISD and Tarleton State University have agreed to a partnership designed to lend a hand to Azle ISD seniors who want a college education.

Azle ISD and Tarleton leaders finalized the “Distinguished High School Partnership” agreement with a memorandum signed at the December 13 meeting of the Azle ISD Board of Trustees.

Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, Tarleton will guarantee admission to Azle High School seniors who graduate in the top 33 percent of their class. In addition, Tarleton will provide annual scholarships designated to this program for seniors who graduate in the top 25 percent of their class.

As part of the Distinguished High School Partnership, Tarleton also will waive ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) requirements for students in the top quarter of their class and application fees for students who qualify.

“We are extremely excited about this program and the opportunities it is going to provide our students,” said Superintendent Todd Smith. “As a Tarleton State Alumni, I am extremely proud TSU reached out to Azle ISD regarding this partnership.”

The President's Guaranteed Scholarship Program assures first-time-in-college students graduating in the top quarter of their high school class between $1,000 and $4,000 in scholarships. Students graduating from one of Tarleton’s Distinguished High School Partners will receive an additional $500 or $1,000. Admitted freshmen must submit a general scholarship application to determine eligibility.
