On Saturday, August 5, 2023, Azle ISD, along with VLK architects and BTC construction, celebrated the grand opening of Hilltop Elementary with a ribbon cutting by the Azle Area Chamber of Commerce and leveling ceremony by the Azle Masonic Lodge. Azle High School cheerleaders greeted guests and the Marching Green Pride performed at the event.
Hilltop Elementary is the district's first new elementary campus in 25 years and is set to open its doors to students for the 2023-2024 school year. The new campus received funding through the May 2021 bond to support growth in the district.
Located on a hilltop site, the design of this new campus parallels the floor plan of Walnut Creek Elementary School. The new two-story building spans approximately 80,000sf, including a large learning commons at the heart of the building. The campus also includes an operable partition between the gym and cafeteria to provide a large multipurpose space for both community and campus events, as well as separation of public and student spaces to prioritize student safety.
