Congratulations to Superintendent Todd Smith for being honored by the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America with the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award.
Smith was presented with the award at a luncheon at Tarrant County College on Wednesday, February 21.
The Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award was established by the Boy Scouts of America in 2016 to recognize the valuable contributions that educators make in the lives of young people. Dr. Fretwell, the namesake of this award, was an early leader of the Scouting movement in the United States and a leading scholar in education, focusing on the value of extra-curricular opportunities to improve education outcomes.
“The Boy Scouts of America’s mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes, and they recognize that teachers, staff, administrators, and others involved in educating young people are valuable partners in that mission.”
Mr. Smith’s scouting involvement was in the SW Arlington area in which he followed a traditional scouting pathway of cub scouts, webelos, and boy scouts. He was extremely active in Troop 445 earning the Eagle Scout rank on July 11, 1989. Scouting highlights include various troop leadership roles, Order of the Arrow, many camping and summer camps at Worth Ranch, Sid Richardson, and Leonard, Aquatics School, and Philmont.
Mr. Smith proudly supports Scouts and enjoys sharing his scouting experiences with students of Azle ISD. The leadership skills and life skills learned from years of scouting has been extremely beneficial in his career pathway and personal life. Mr. Smith is thankful for the committed scout leaders who dedicated their time to making his scouting experience extremely positive and beneficial.
Congratulations, Mr. Smith! #WeAreAzle
