On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the Azle Education Foundation held its 12th annual Red Solo Cup BBQ Fundraiser at The Orchard in Azle. At the event, AEF presented awards to a Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Citizen for 2023-2024.
Andrew Greer, Azle High School Class of 2000, was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Greer attended Azle ISD from kindergarten through 12th grade. During his time at AHS, he participated in Choir, Band, National Honor Society, SAVE, and HADIT. His awards include, “Who’s Who Among American High School Students,” USAA English, Science, and Leadership Award, English Olympiad Award, Optimist Club Youth Award, 1st Place World History Academics Award, 1st Place English Academic Award, and Outstanding Musician for two years. He was 1st Chair on the All-District Choir, a member of the All-Region Choir, and earned awards in State Solo and Ensemble Competition.
After graduation, Greer attended Belmont University in Nashville, TN, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree. His singer-songwriter career began in 2009, his author career in 2015, and podcast/TV career in 2017. Greer is an eight-time Dove Award nominee and is also known for his published commentaries and editorials in national publications as well as streaming series, TED talks, and podcasts. He is passionate about sharing stories through music, books, and films.
Renee Ball was presented with the Distinguished Citizen Award. Renee graduated from Azle High School before going to work for the school district. After working in the business office, she moved to the Superintendent’s office, where she worked under six different superintendents. Her career in Azle ISD spanned over 37 years.
Renee is a strong advocate for all students and programs. She continues to support public education by contacting legislators and attending school board meetings.
The annual Red Solo Cup event features an evening of dining, dancing, and a unique live auction that raises funds for AEF to provide student scholarships, teacher and campus grants, new teacher gift cards, and more.
