Azle ISD is pleased to announce that Michael Sain has been selected as the district’s Director of Athletics, replacing Becky Spurlock who is retiring in June after eight years in the district and 41 years in education.
Coach Sain has served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Prosper ISD since March 2020. He is a third-generation educator and has worked in education for 18 years. His experience ranges from middle school to high school in both boys and girls programs in a multitude of sports. He has served in an administrative capacity at both the campus and district levels.
Sain graduated from Arkansas Tech University with his Bachelor of Arts in History Education in 2006 and earned his Master of Education Administration from Lamar University.
He and his wife, Brandi, have four children and they are excited to join our Hornet family.
“It is hard for me to contain my excitement as I think about the wonderful opportunity that has been awarded to me to serve Azle ISD and the Azle community,” said Sain. “I am thrilled that my family will get the chance to be a part of such an excellent school district that always puts students first in all that they do. The community can rest assured that the Athletic Department will continue to do the same as we continue to search for ways to ensure our student-athletes are always getting the first-class experience they deserve.”
“I am proud to welcome Coach Michael Sain and his family to Azle ISD,” said Superintendent Todd Smith. “Coach Sain comes to us with a strong background of various athletic roles and duties in fast growth school districts. I look forward to his passion and enthusiasm, along with the vision and plans he has for our Azle athletic program.”
