The Azle ISD Hornet Academy was started in the spring of 2008. Since its inception, AHA has graduated more than 800 students.
A typical Azle Hornet Academy student may have withdrawn from high school to work, start a family, or just did not fit into the traditional high school structure. Some students were currently enrolled in high school and transferred to AHA to complete their diploma. Some students may have been out of school for a number of years when they realized they needed their diploma and/or were in a better position to complete school.
We have had students complete the program while still raising a family. We have had students who graduated from AHA because they wanted to fulfill a personal goal of earning and receiving their high school diploma.
There is no upper age limit or residency requirement to be an AHA student; we have had graduates from as far away as California and a number of graduates who were in their 50s and 60s!
Some students needed extra help to be able to complete the courses, so they utilized our tutoring services. Some of our graduates only needed a few credits when they enrolled at AHA, while others needed a substantial amount.
Our counselor and teachers will work with you and map out a plan. The amount of time it takes to graduate is only dependent on you.
All prospective Hornet Academy students will need to fill out the application form.
Online Application - link is found under Applications and Forms
Registration - Completed upon acceptance into Hornet Academy
Applicants who are currently enrolled at Azle High School must apply and be approved by their counselor and pioncipal.
Upon review and approval by the Azle Hornet Academy administrator, the registrar will contact the applicant to set an appointment for a preview day. On preview day, the student will meet with the administrator to review student expectations and four-year degree plan. The student will log on and work in APEX, our online program, to determine if this will be an appropriate program for the student's success and ultimate graduation.
Throughout the program, students will be monitored and given access to a teacher for guidance and help, if needed. The teacher will monitor the student's progress and will assign classes that follow the graduation plan.
Coursework is self-paced, so the student can work as quickly as he/she would like to complete. The student will be expected to complete at least one class every two weeks.
When all of the coursework has been completed for classes with required state assessments, the student will be required to take the state exit exam for each of those classes.
